Thymoma tumors are generally classified into four stages:

Stage 1: The tumor is confined within the capsule.
Stage 2: The tumor may have spread to the capsule and advanced into the surrounding fatty tissue or adjacent pleura (lung lining) or pericardium (heart sac).
Stage 3: The tumor has spread to the surrounding tissues outside the capsule, the windpipe, the lung, or the heart sac.
Stage 4: The tumor has spread to the lung lining or other distant organs.
