Turner syndrome is a genetic condition that exclusively affects female individuals, arising from the partial or complete absence or a structural abnormality of one of the sex chromosomes, the X chromosome. This condition typically manifests with distinct physical characteristics such as short stature, infertility due to underdeveloped ovaries, estrogen deficiency, and various cardiac anomalies. It is also referred to as congenital ovarian hypoplasia syndrome. Usually diagnosed around the age of five, Turner syndrome generally does not affect intellectual ability, but it can lead to difficulties in memory and certain developmental areas. Heart problems are also common accompanying health issues. While Turner syndrome has the potential to shorten the average lifespan, with regular medical follow-up and appropriate treatment approaches, symptoms can be effectively managed, quality of life can be improved, and significant contributions can be made to maintaining health.
