In our country's childhood vaccination schedule, the chickenpox vaccine is administered as a single dose at 12 months of age. Vaccination is the most effective method of protection against chickenpox disease. Although not included in our national vaccination schedule, immunity can be further strengthened with a booster dose given between 4-6 years of age. For individuals aged 12 years and older, vaccination should be administered in two doses, one month apart. Furthermore, in children who have had contact with an infected person during the contagious period of chickenpox, vaccination within the first 72 hours can help prevent the disease or reduce its severity.
