Salivary gland tumors are predominantly benign (non-cancerous). Among these, parotid gland tumors are the most frequently observed. Benign salivary gland tumors are generally not aggressive and rarely metastasize (spread to other areas). However, there is a small, albeit rare, risk of benign tumors transforming into malignant (cancerous) ones if left untreated. Therefore, a thorough evaluation of any salivary gland tumor and initiation of appropriate treatment are crucial. For malignant salivary gland cancers, early diagnosis and prompt treatment significantly enhance the success of therapy. Consequently, seeking immediate medical attention is highly important if symptoms such as swelling in front of the ear or under the jaw, difficulty swallowing, or facial numbness/tingling are experienced.
