Initial symptoms of liver failure may include general complaints such as fatigue, weakness, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. As the disease progresses, more distinct and severe symptoms emerge; these include jaundice, abdominal distension (fluid accumulation in the abdomen, known as ascites), easy bruising or bleeding (e.g., nosebleeds, gum bleeding, or prolonged bleeding from minor injuries), and cognitive impairment. This cognitive impairment, known as hepatic encephalopathy, can manifest as a loss of time and space perception, inability to recognize close relatives, and inconsistent behavior, potentially progressing to increased somnolence and coma. These advanced symptoms indicate that the disease has reached a more critical stage.
