The tetanus vaccine is recommended for children at 2, 4, 6, 18, and 48 months of age, and again at 13 years. For adults, a booster dose is advised every 10 years. Adults who have not previously been vaccinated against tetanus should complete a primary vaccination series consisting of three doses, followed by booster doses every 10 years. As tetanus antibody levels naturally decline over time, failure to receive booster doses can increase the risk of developing tetanus later in life.
