Recent studies indicate that a hereditary form of prosopagnosia may affect approximately 2.5% of the UK population. Furthermore, some research suggests that this prevalence could be as high as 10% when considering milder or subclinical presentations. A frequent complaint among individuals with prosopagnosia is the difficulty recognizing or following characters in films. Despite these figures, it is not possible to conclude that prosopagnosia is becoming more widespread or increasing in prevalence.
