Fibrinogen deficiency (hypofibrinogenemia) is a condition characterized by abnormally low levels of the fibrinogen protein in the body, also known as Factor I deficiency. When this protein, synthesized in the liver, falls below its normal reference range, it adversely affects the blood clotting process. Individuals with low fibrinogen levels experience an increased risk of severe and uncontrolled bleeding after injuries or surgical procedures. Various liver diseases such as cirrhosis and acute hepatitis, malnutrition, or certain genetic disorders can lead to fibrinogen deficiency.
