The steps for the stress test are as follows:
1. Electrodes are placed on the patient's chest.
2. While at rest, pulse and blood pressure are measured and recorded.
3. The patient's electrocardiogram (ECG) is monitored in supine, standing positions, and while breathing at 1-minute intervals.
4. During exercise, blood pressure and ECG measurements are taken every 3 minutes.
5. The patient is initially moved on the treadmill at a slow speed and low incline; the pace is gradually increased, and measurements are recorded at each stage.
6. Throughout the test, as speed and incline are increased, the patient is carefully observed every 3 minutes for symptoms such as pulse, respiration, and chest pain.
7. The test is typically completed within 10-15 minutes. Before the patient gets off the treadmill, a final resting ECG is recorded.
