Pancreatic cancer is a serious disease characterized by the uncontrolled proliferation of cells in the pancreas. While the exact causes of the disease are not fully known, it is strongly associated with risk factors such as obesity and smoking. In the vast majority of cases, pancreatic cancer develops in the exocrine cells lining the pancreatic ducts. This type is referred to as an exocrine tumor, also known as adenocarcinoma. Among the rarer types of pancreatic cancer are endocrine tumors, which originate from the islet cells of the pancreas.
