An elevation in C-reactive protein (CRP) may be observed in diverticulitis when inflammation reaches a certain level. This condition most commonly occurs in the sigmoid colon and typically presents with abdominal pain; symptoms such as bloating and diarrhea may also accompany it. There is no direct link between diverticulitis and cancer. While not a directly fatal disease itself, complications that may arise can be life-threatening if not diagnosed and treated in a timely manner.
