Lymph nodes are a vital part of our immune system, tasked with protecting our body against microbes causing infections, tumor cells, and their spread. Our body contains approximately 600 lymph nodes, which typically range in size from 5 mm to 1 cm. They are strategically located in areas such as the neck, in front of and behind the ears, under the jaw, in the armpits, groin area, and within internal organs. Lymph nodes house immune cells and act as filters, straining harmful substances, bacteria, and toxins from the body, thereby playing a critical role in the smooth functioning of the immune system.
