Spina bifida is a developmental disorder and does not inherently progress in severity over time. However, individuals with Spina bifida may experience various associated complications. These can include hydrocephalus, Chiari malformation, bladder and bowel dysfunction, kidney insufficiency in advanced stages, and meningitis resulting from infections. The emergence of one or more of these secondary conditions can lead to a worsening of the patient's overall health status.
