A pilonidal sinus can sometimes manifest as a pimple or an abscess. Some patients may attempt to pop the abscess themselves. However, popping a pilonidal sinus abscess does not permanently resolve the underlying issue. It should be noted that pilonidal cysts are filled not only with pus but also with hair and other cellular debris, and this content cannot be fully evacuated by mere squeezing.
