Kawasaki disease primarily affects children under 5 years old. However, having had Kawasaki disease during childhood is considered a significant risk factor for coronary heart disease in later life. Indeed, it has been found that 5% of adults under 40 diagnosed with coronary artery disease had Kawasaki disease in their childhood.
