This treatment method, also known as radioembolization or Selective Internal Radiotherapy (SIRT), involves the targeted injection of Yttrium-90 radioisotope-loaded microspheres directly into the liver tumor via the arteries. This allows for a radiation dose that would be too high to deliver externally, to be focused solely on the tumor tissue with minimal impact on surrounding healthy tissues, thereby effectively destroying tumor cells.
