During periods such as Eid al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice), close contact between animals and the use of shared slaughtering tools can increase the risk of Parapoxvirus (the causative agent of Orf disease) spreading among animals and from animals to humans. However, consuming the meat of an animal infected with Orf disease does not transmit the disease to humans. The Orf virus primarily causes skin lesions; however, eating the meat does not lead to the disease in humans.
