The treatment of liver metastases varies depending on the organ from which the metastasis originated (type of primary cancer), the degree of spread within the liver (number and location of metastases), and whether there is spread to other organs outside the liver. Lymphomas, in particular, can be treated with appropriate chemotherapy combinations. Liver metastases from breast and lung cancers may show partial benefit from chemotherapy. Liver metastases originating from colorectal cancers require a separate evaluation. These types of metastases are frequently observed in the liver, and their surgical removal is of great importance in the treatment process.
