Measles is a contagious disease that poses a serious threat to child health. Particularly in infants under one year of age, the course of the disease can become severe and lead to fatal outcomes. Although significant reductions in measles-related mortality rates have been recorded worldwide thanks to vaccination programs, approximately 100,000 children under the age of five still die from measles each year. The seriousness of the disease has also been demonstrated by recent data from developed European Union countries: Last year, over 12,000 measles cases were reported, and 33 individuals lost their lives due to the disease.
