If anal itching is caused by a medical condition, treating that condition usually relieves the itching.

Dietary fiber supplements can be added to reduce itching caused by fecal contamination.

Creams applied to the anal area (hydrocortisone, zinc oxide, etc.) reduce symptoms.

Antihistamines (allergy medications, especially for patients whose symptoms worsen in the evening) may help.

However, in some patients, itching may persist despite trying many different treatments.

In this case, different creams (containing capsaicin) are applied around the anus.

If symptoms persist, medication injection (methylene blue) into the skin may be applied.
