Prolotherapy is an injection-based therapy that involves introducing a restorative solution, containing proliferative agents, directly into the affected area to stimulate natural healing. Before the procedure, the treatment area is thoroughly evaluated using imaging techniques such as MRI or CT scans. Following this assessment, the precise injection sites are identified and marked. Prior to the injections, the skin is cleaned and disinfected. To enhance patient comfort, a topical local anesthetic cream may be applied, and for those who may experience significant discomfort or anxiety, sedation can also be administered. Once prepared, the restorative solution is carefully injected into the designated points. Crucially, anti-inflammatory pain relievers are generally not used before or immediately after the procedure. This is essential for allowing the body's natural inflammatory and healing response, vital for the therapy's success, to initiate effectively. Furthermore, patients are typically advised to discontinue blood-thinning medications for a specified period prior to treatment. Comprehensive and individualized guidance regarding all medication adjustments will be provided by your treating physician.
