Hand-Foot-and-Mouth Disease (HFMD) is a contagious rash-inducing illness typically caused by enteroviruses such as coxsackievirus. In children suspected of having the disease, a pediatrician takes a detailed anamnesis (medical history) and then performs a comprehensive physical examination. During this examination, a preliminary diagnosis can often be made based on typical findings. However, for a definitive diagnosis, laboratory tests may be performed using throat swabs, stool samples, or blood samples. The diagnosis is confirmed by combining clinical findings with laboratory test results.
