There is no specific treatment for Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease. Treatment focuses on alleviating the symptoms, and the symptoms typically resolve on their own within 7 to 10 days. To relieve the pain caused by mouth sores, topical oral anesthetics, along with pain relievers and fever reducers, may be used.
To support the recovery process, increased fluid intake and a diet rich in fiber and probiotics are important. Children who are ill should be rested throughout the duration of the sickness. For children aged four and above, herbal remedies such as linden tea or sage tea may also be considered.
To help the child feel more comfortable and reduce the severity of symptoms, excessively hot food and drinks should be avoided, and soft foods should be preferred. It is beneficial to steer clear of citrus fruits and acidic beverages like soda to avoid irritating painful blisters in the mouth. Additionally, rinsing the mouth with warm salt water can also provide relief to the child. This disease is a common viral infection in children.
