Eczema is a common skin condition with many different types, and hands are one of the most frequently affected areas. Hand eczema develops as a result of the weakening or breakdown of the skin's natural protective barrier function. Factors such as frequent hand washing, contact with irritating substances like detergents, soaps, bleach, and dusty environments, damage the skin barrier and pave the way for eczema formation. Symptoms of hand eczema typically appear on the palms, backs of the hands, and fingers, but can sometimes extend to the forearms.
