Bone marrow biopsies are usually performed under sedation. Therefore, the patient does not feel pain or discomfort during the bone marrow biopsy. If the bone marrow biopsy is performed under local anesthesia, the patient may feel mild pain or a pushing or pulling sensation depending on the needle movements. After the bone marrow biopsy procedure, the patient may experience very mild bone pain. However, this pain can be controlled with simple analgesics. The pain usually resolves spontaneously within a few days.
