Following tracheal surgery, speech typically remains unaffected as long as the nerves controlling the vocal cords are preserved. However, in some cases, these nerves may be located within the stenotic area and could be inadvertently damaged during surgery. This can lead to temporary hoarseness in the early postoperative period. If the nerve damage is bilateral, the hoarseness may become permanent. In cases of unilateral nerve involvement, hoarseness is usually temporary and can often be improved or resolved with a simple vocal cord injection if needed.

Regarding nutrition after tracheal surgery, there are generally no specific dietary restrictions. Patients can usually follow a standard postoperative diet as recommended for other surgical procedures.
