Somatic symptom disorders, also known as psychosomatic symptom disorders or somatoform disorders, often present with a chronic course. However, the progression of symptoms can vary significantly, ranging from a reduction in severity to an increase, or even complete remission over time. Studies indicate that approximately 50% to 75% of patients experiencing medically unexplained symptoms show improvement, while 10% to 30% may experience a worsening of their condition over time.
