The probability of a knee prosthesis dislocating is quite low. This usually occurs as a result of severe trauma, accidents, or falls directly onto the knee. However, what is often referred to as 'dislocation' is actually the wear of the polyethylene (plastic) liner, a spacer placed between the prosthetic components to prevent friction. A worn polyethylene liner can be replaced through a surgical procedure.
