The diagnosis of osteoporosis is established by determining bone loss through bone mineral density (BMD) measurement. The measured bone density values are compared with healthy young adult reference values, and the deviations resulting from this comparison are expressed as a 'T-score'. Based on these T-score data, the World Health Organization (WHO) has classified osteoporosis.
