Flat feet (pes planus) are a common condition observed in both children and adults, and most often do not cause any problems or activity restrictions. Especially in children, as arch development can continue up to a certain age, flat feet may be considered natural during this period. However, in some cases, flat feet can lead to symptoms. These symptoms include: Pain, which is the most frequently encountered symptom, resulting from strain on the foot muscles and ligaments, typically felt in the foot, ankle, calf, and even extending to the knee, hip, or lower back, often concentrated in the arch of the foot and the inner part of the ankle; shoe deformity, where shoes, particularly their inner sides, may wear out more quickly due to altered foot mechanics; leg fatigue, a sensation of rapid leg tiredness; stiffness or numbness in the feet; swelling in the feet; callus formation on the feet secondary to incorrect foot pressure; and, although rare, walking and balance problems.
