While every woman can be a candidate for in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment, age significantly impacts the chance of pregnancy. After the age of 40, the rates of pregnancy, continuation of pregnancy, and live births significantly decrease. Especially after the age of 45, even if eggs are present, pregnancy rates drop to low levels of approximately 1% to 5%. Generally, the chance of achieving a successful pregnancy decreases with advancing age.
