Cartilage transplantation is generally a treatment method that cannot be applied instead of a knee prosthesis. This method is designed for much smaller and localized cartilage damages. In cases requiring a knee prosthesis, the patient's damaged area is usually much larger and more widespread. However, in some special circumstances, particularly in young patients and for small-area damage that could potentially replace a partial knee prosthesis, cartilage transplantation may be considered. For patients requiring a total knee prosthesis, cartilage transplantation is not a suitable alternative.
