Surgical intervention in the treatment of diverticulitis may become unavoidable in certain situations. Surgery is generally considered in the presence of the following clinical scenarios:
* Development of serious complications such as an abscess, fistula, obstruction, or perforation in the intestine.
* Recurrence of multiple diverticulitis attacks.
* In immunocompromised patients.
