Current research indicates that new-generation gastric balloons do not lead to serious complications beyond temporary discomforts such as nausea, vomiting, and gagging sensation experienced within the first 1-2 days. While older generation balloons were associated with severe complications like gastric ulcers, perforation, and bleeding, with new balloon technologies, these risks have significantly decreased, almost to the point of being eliminated.
