Fetal echocardiography is a highly recommended procedure for pregnancies at high risk for the early detection of congenital heart diseases. These risk factors include:
* A family history of heart disease.
* The presence of certain medical conditions in the expectant mother.
* Exposure to teratogens during pregnancy.
* Intrauterine infections such as rubella.
* A known fetal anomaly.
* Amniotic fluid abnormalities.
* Chromosomal abnormalities.
* Multiple pregnancies (especially monozygotic or conjoined twins).
Additionally, fetal echocardiography may also be recommended for pregnancies involving advanced maternal age or abnormal prenatal screening test results.
