For cases of otosclerosis, the primary treatment method is surgical intervention. This procedure, known as 'stapedotomy,' involves removing the stapes bone and replacing it with a metal or plastic prosthesis. Post-operatively, patients may experience dizziness for a few days, necessitating bed rest. As with any surgical procedure, there are inherent risks. Therefore, if otosclerosis affects both ears, it is advisable to operate on one ear first. The decision to proceed with surgery on the second ear will be made based on the outcome of the initial operation.
