Premature ejaculation (PE) and erectile dysfunction (ED) are conditions often confused with each other. Many men may mistakenly believe they have erectile dysfunction when, after a detailed evaluation, it's determined they are actually experiencing premature ejaculation. As a requirement of male physiology, a certain rest period (refractory period) is needed for re-erection and orgasm after ejaculation. Difficulty achieving sufficient erection immediately after premature ejaculation, combined with this natural physiological process, can lead individuals to mistakenly believe they are experiencing erectile dysfunction. To clarify the difference between these two conditions, it is crucial for a doctor to take a comprehensive medical history and perform an evaluation. Sometimes, erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation can occur simultaneously. In such cases, priority should be given to treating erectile dysfunction. If premature ejaculation issues still persist after erectile dysfunction has been successfully treated, specific treatment options for PE should then be considered.
