A thyroid storm (thyrotoxic crisis) is a severe and life-threatening condition caused by an overactive thyroid gland. Its symptoms can appear suddenly and include:

* Fever of 38°C (100.4°F) and above
* Severe tachycardia (heart rate exceeding 140 beats per minute)
* Excessive sweating
* Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
* Abdominal pain
* Extreme irritability or agitation
* Loss of consciousness or fainting
* Sleep disturbances

Diagnosis of a thyroid storm is made following a detailed examination by an endocrinologist. High T3 and T4 levels and low TSH hormone levels in blood tests are critical for diagnosis. Additionally, a thyroid ultrasound may be required.

The first step in treating thyroid storm, and thyroid diseases in general, is the correct and regular use of thyroid medications. These medications help alleviate symptoms and reduce the effects of the disease. Following medication therapy, additional treatment methods such as radioactive iodine therapy or surgical intervention may be considered under medical supervision.
