Local anesthetics safe for use during pregnancy are available for dental procedures. However, while radiation from X-ray equipment used in dentistry is very low, it is recommended to avoid X-rays in pregnant women. If an X-ray is absolutely necessary, the mother should be given a protective apron and the procedure should be performed with equipment using a very low dose. Considering these factors, non-emergency tooth extractions can be postponed during the first and last three months of pregnancy.
