HPV is a common virus that causes cervical cancer and warts. There are over 200 types of HPV. Some types of HPV cause warts, while others can cause cancer. Not all HPV types cause cancer, but some genital HPV types can lead to cervical cancer. Penile and other genital cancers are also linked to HPV infection. HPV can be categorized into high-risk and low-risk types. The most common high-risk HPV types include HPV 16, HPV 18, HPV 33, HPV 31, HPV 45, HPV 52, and HPV 58. The most common low-risk types include HPV 6 and HPV 11. High-risk HPV types are more likely to cause cervical cancer, while low-risk types are more likely to cause genital warts.
