Dissociative identity disorder (DID) is a serious psychological disorder that significantly impacts a person's life. It may also be referred to as multiple personality disorder. It manifests as the presence of more than one identity within a single individual. It can develop as a result of childhood trauma. The mind fragments to protect itself from these traumas, creating alter identities. Individuals with DID may hear their alter identities talking to each other as inner voices.
