Procedures performed by an experienced physician with accurate indication pose no danger. Since the procedures are performed with imaging guidance, the physician can see the area they are entering. In risky areas, contrast media is administered to verify the procedure. Therefore, it does not carry a significant risk. Aseptic conditions are maintained to minimize the risk of infection. All risks are much lower than those associated with spinal surgery. However, allergic reactions, increased blood sugar and blood pressure, dizziness, and headache may occasionally occur; these side effects are quickly controlled. Rarely, facial redness may occur in the first few days related to the administered steroid. Menstrual irregularities may be seen in women during the first month. The procedure does not damage the nerve root. Generally, a single application is sufficient. In a small group of patients, a second application may be performed 10 days later, depending on the level of improvement.
