The diagnosis of oligospermia is made using a semen analysis (spermiogram). The spermiogram test is performed by examining a semen sample provided after a 3-day abstinence period. Therefore, analyzing semen samples from 10 days prior or 1 day prior will not provide accurate results. The male must abstain from ejaculation for 3 days before providing a sample for accurate testing.
