Orthodontic treatment is fundamentally divided into two main categories: removable and fixed treatment. Removable treatment involves the use of specially prepared devices, such as clear aligners or various appliances, that the patient can insert and remove themselves. This method is generally preferred for correcting minor tooth misalignments and small gaps between teeth. In fixed treatment, brackets are used, which are directly bonded to the teeth and cannot be removed by the patient. These brackets can be made of metal or clear ceramic material and are connected to each other with special wires. This system applies gentle and continuous force to the teeth, gradually moving them into their correct positions and resolving more complex orthodontic issues. Additionally, to correct certain jaw development problems, extraoral appliances such as chincaps or headgears may be used to guide jaw development and alignment.
