For children who undergo surgery for Tetralogy of Fallot, the long-term prognosis is generally excellent. If a pulmonary valve-sparing procedure is performed, subsequent reoperations may often be avoided throughout their lives. However, in cases where the pulmonary valve's function is compromised during the initial surgery, the right ventricle may progressively deteriorate due to valve leakage. Such children might require a second surgical or interventional procedure around 10 to 12 years of age. Overall, with successful surgical correction, the life expectancy for children with Tetralogy of Fallot is nearly comparable to that of healthy individuals.
