Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injuries are common knee injuries, especially during sports activities. These types of injuries typically occur due to sudden and severe stress on the knee. Key causes include sudden deceleration and changes in direction, unbalanced landings after jumps, sudden pivoting of the knee, direct blows to the knee, and the use of inappropriate equipment in sports like football or skiing. Specifically in competitions like football, the cleats used by players to avoid slipping on artificial turf can get caught in the ground. Sudden twisting movements while this happens can increase the stress on the knee, leading to ACL tears. ACL injuries can range in severity from a mild stretch (sprain) to a partial or complete tear of the tissue. In mild injuries, the ligament may remain intact despite being stretched, whereas in more severe cases, there is a partial or complete rupture of the ligament.
