MitraClip is considered a lower-risk, less invasive alternative for patients for whom open-heart surgery poses a high risk or is not suitable, especially elderly patients with coexisting serious health conditions. This method is a less extensive procedure compared to traditional surgery. However, the standard treatment method for mitral valve regurgitation remains surgical repair by direct visualization of the valve. While surgical repair is performed by cardiovascular surgeons, the MitraClip procedure is carried out by interventional cardiology specialists.
