Before a bronchoscopy procedure, a detailed medical history and physical examination of the patient must be conducted. If co-existing cardiac or metabolic conditions are present, the patient should be evaluated by the relevant specialists to assess their suitability for the procedure. Pre-procedural tests typically include a chest X-ray, electrocardiogram (ECG), blood coagulation tests, and, if necessary, pulmonary function tests. The chest X-ray should be reviewed before bronchoscopy, and if further evaluation of a lung condition is needed, a computed tomography (CT) scan of the chest should be performed to precisely locate any lesions. The primary diagnostic approach for each patient should be determined, clearly explained to the patient in an understandable language, and informed consent obtained. Patients must refrain from consuming solid or liquid food for at least 6-8 hours prior to the procedure.
