Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD) is a common and contagious viral infection primarily affecting children under 10 years old, caused by the coxsackievirus, a member of the enterovirus family. As its name suggests, HFMD manifests with blister-like rashes and sores on the hands, feet, and mouth. Symptoms typically appear 3-5 days after infection, initially including fever, loss of appetite, runny nose, and sore throat. Rashes and lesions then develop within 1-2 days following these initial symptoms. These painful sores often appear in the front of the mouth or throat. Characteristic rashes are observed on the hands (especially the palms), feet (especially the soles), and less commonly, in the buttock area. The appearance of these rashes may vary depending on skin tone.
