The tricuspid valve is located between the right atrium and the right ventricle of the heart. It ensures unidirectional blood flow by preventing blood from flowing backward into the right atrium when the right ventricle contracts. When insufficiency occurs in this valve, blood returning to the heart from the body flows backward, reducing the heart's pumping efficiency. Tricuspid valve insufficiency can lead to symptoms such as distension in the neck veins, liver enlargement, and edema (swelling) in the legs.
